OCEAN BANK
PRESIDENT, JOSE A. CONCEPCION
RECEIVES THE ESSIE SILVA
COMMUNITY BUILDER AWARD

MIAMI, FL—June 30, 2006 – Ocean Bank President and Chief Executive Officer, José A. Concepción, received the Essie Silva Community Builder Award from the United Way earlier this week. The award was presented to Mr. Concepción by Adrienne Arsht, Chairman of the Board of TotalBank and 2005 recipient of the award. José A. Concepción is involved in numerous human service organizations. Through his involvement he brings people together to make a difference in the lives of children of all ages, small business owners, entrepreneurs and the community in general.

“I am thrilled to accept this award today and for this recognition from the United Way,” said Concepción. “At Ocean Bank we firmly believe in giving back to our community and the United Way of Miami-Dade plays a critical role in ensuring that those people who are most in need in our community receive the assistance they need to better themselves and overcome challenges,” he added.

Other United Way Volunteer Award winners included Arielle Maffei – Outstanding Youth Award; Mary Young of IBM – Dorothy Shula Award for Outstanding Volunteerism; and David Saltman of Jewish Community Services – Monsignor Walsh Outstanding Human Services Professional Award.

Concepción places enormous importance on the value of education. Because of this, he created the Ocean Bank Center for Education Materials, one of the many ways he has championed the students and teachers of Miami-Dade County. The OBCEM is an independent nonprofit that was originally created to replenish school supplies after Hurricane Andrew. Since 1993, Ocean Bank has donated more than half a million dollars to the center and each week the center is visited by teachers from nearly every school in the district to obtain much-needed classroom materials.

Under Concepción’s leadership, Ocean Bank has also funded Boys and Girls Club of Miami’s Alex Rodriguez Educational Center, Florida International University’s College of Business Administration, The United Negro College Fund benefiting Florida Memorial University, Orange Bowl Foundation/Kiwanis Club of Little Havana Scholarship Fund, Miami-Dade College, Liga Contra el Cancer and much more.

Concepción’s commitment to helping others has had great influence on the employees of Ocean Bank and their families as well. By implementing benefit programs, continuing education and training, Concepción has helped thousands of people make positive strides in their personal and professional lives.
